Dr Adrian Loh has been in practice as a psychiatrist for more than a decade. Before joining Promises, he has accrued extensive experience in general psychiatry in Singapore’s public sector, both at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and in various general hospitals.

In particular, he is a trained Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who has completed a clinical fellowship at the University of British Columbia in 2014. Following his return from fellowship, he has also practiced at IMH’s Child Guidance Clinic, where he was the consultant psychiatrist overseeing the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Clinic. Asides from OCD, he also treated patients with anxiety and mood disorders, tic disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as other developmental and mental health concerns. He has also been serving as an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the National University of Singapore’s Department of Psychological Medicine, where he has been helping as faculty for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

As a recipient of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)’s scholarship for medical studies, Dr Loh has gained considerable experience in the military and occupational aspects of psychiatry. He also headed the SAF’s Psychological Care Centre for almost a decade with other mental health professionals. In this role, he was responsible for optimising the mental well-being of national servicemen and career military regulars amidst the strenuous challenges faced in their working environment.

In the SAF, he served as a Senior Consultant in Psychiatry and Aviation Medicine. With this dually-qualified background, he has helped look after the complex mental health concerns of aviators and flying-related personnel.

With his relevant expertise, Dr Loh has also keenly contributed his expertise to various committees such as the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Section – College of Psychiatry (Academy of Medicine), Singapore Psychiatric Association, Committees for Residential Care and Fostering (MSF), Panel of Therapeutic Specialists (MinLaw), Specialist Training Committee for Aviation Medicine, and Civil Aviation Medical Board (CAMB). He has also voluntarily contributed his professional skills and knowledge to various NGOs and faith-based organisations.

Dr Loh strongly emphasises the need for a holistic and respectful approach towards his patients’ well-being, including their own family and social norms, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs. In addition to the judicious use of medications, he enjoys collaborating with other care providers and, where helpful, using digital platforms to bring comfort and healing to his patients. Over the years, he is also grateful that many of his patients have trusted him to be a part of their recovery journeys; through their stories, he has continued to learn immensely about life.

In his free time, he recharges himself by running in green spaces, listening to audiobooks, travelling with family and friends, and being an active member of his church. The Covid-19 pandemic added freshwater fishes and a beloved adopted cat to add further colour as well as challenges to his life.
